A house is a basic necessity for any human it comes under the purview of the fundamental right of shelter along with the other fundamental rights such as right to food, health care, education, clothing etc. Living in a proper house is in that way is very important for any individual. How to classify a house as “proper”. Any proper house is classified not based on its cost or the area it covers but rather if its equipped to meet the most basic of needs of the individuals concerned.

For instance if a house is designed to be meant for a number of four people then it should have enough space for 4 people to comfortably sleep in , proper sanitation meaning bath rooms, toilets . Adequate water and electricity supply and a good roof and proper ventilation. If all these basic things are met the house becomes proper. However for the house designs to be anywhere between satisfactory to luxurious it depends on the perception of the individuals residing in them. For instance to a billionaire any house with access to helipad, golf course and acres of sprawling garden will be worth living, on the otherhand a middle class urban resider will be happy if the house has enough space to keep his essential things plus good access to commuting, food, health, market and a affordable rent if it is a rented place like in Toronto housing. A person with a recreation mindset will have a different set of demands say parks, swimming pools, lawn tennis or badminton facilities etc.

Houses can be categorized on the architecture associated with the region they are constructed. Example Japanese houses all have a lower roof and pagoda like construction . A typical average US house on the otherhand has a lawn and a car park. An European house or maison ecologique will have a chimney , glass windows and balcony laden with flowers. Therefore geography also plays a role in the type of house one lives in.
